Caring for Fashion Jewelry

In general, fashion jewelry can be an amazing alternative to genuine solid precious medal i.e. 24 karat solid gold. It is much more cost effective and it still looks and feels great. Here at Dickielee.com, our jewelry is made with such precision and care that you would not be able to distinguish it from the highest quality piece with the naked eye. With our lower cost, you can build yourself a nice jewelry collection without spending your life savings or sacrificing quality. You can also wear your favorite pieces out on the beach without having the fear of loosing or breaking an excessively expensive necklace. Because we use 14 karat gold fill and sterling silver jewels in our pieces, you can be assured that your jewelry will have a long life usage. However if you do decide to purchase plated jewelry as an alternative, the good news is that with proper care, you can still have years of enjoyment out of them. Here are some suggestions:

  • Do not use mainstream cleaners. They are very harsh and can harm the finish on plated jewelry. Instead, we recommend cleaning plated jewelry with warm soapy water with a soft brush for hard to reach areas. Do not forget to dry it immediately with a lint-free clothe.
  • Store your jewelry in either the same jewelry box that came with your piece or in a zip-lock bag. It should be noted that even solid gold and sterling silver jewelry can tarnish with exposure from material substance in the air. That is the main reason why solid sterling silver jewelry tends to tarnish on its own. If you want to prevent this from occurring, we suggest you regularly wipe it each piece down with a lint-free clothe. Also, do not forget to store them in a proper a zip lock bag.
  • We also do not recommend you use ultrasonic cleaners. Although this will remove dirt from hard to reach areas, it may also cause the glue from the stones to come lose. Avoid those machines whenever possible and try to clean your fashion jewelry by hand.
  • In time, if your jewelry has lost its luster – don’t despair - consider recycling it by using the beads, charms or chains for a variety of craft projects. Beads can be reused to make earrings, link chains can be cut and used as necklace extenders, charms can be use in scrap booking projects or as pet tags or hot glued to accent just about anything!
